Report: Knicks Still Looking To Unload Jose Calderon’s Contract
The New York Knicks had been looking to move veteran point guard Jose Calderon recently, and they’re still looking for a suitor. Calderon was acquired in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks that sent Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to Dallas, now he’s part of the Knicks’ widespread unloading process.
From Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports:
A source said the Knicks are actively trying to unload guard Jose Calderon’s contract. Calderon is owed $7.4 million in 2015-16, and $7.7 million in 2016-17.
Calderon, 33, has been just one of many struggles for the Knicks this season in terms of production. At the time of his acquisition it’s possible that anyone would be considered an upgrade over Raymond Felton, but we know the Knicks are looking to make room to gather more prime assets. With Calderon being owed around $15 million over the next two seasons, unloading him would be ideal, but it will also make it tougher to find a suitor.
This season Calderon is averaging 9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. He’s shooting above 40 percent from the field and the three-point line. Calderon also hasn’t missed a free throw this season.
