Yesterday the report was that Tony Allen was suspended by the team for 1 game for ‘violating team policy’. Now we are hearing reports that Tony Allen was suspended due to an altercation that occurred with teammate Nick Calathes in practise.
According to Ronald Tillery of Commercial Appeal:
After more digging into the issue, Allen’s physical confrontation was apparently with Calathes during practice. Frustration clearly is building with the team playing poorly and the starting unit lacking consistent and forceful play.
Allen was on the team’s flight to Houston last night and is expected to play against the Rockets. How Joerger and the players, not just Allen, rebound from this brush with turmoil bears monitoring.
Why are the Memphis Grizzlies panicking? They have lost 3 of their last 4 games, but they sit at 2nd place in a tough Western Conference. They also have an MVP caliber center in Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph and Mike Conley are also playing exceptional basketball. Every team has their late season struggles, but GOOD teams climb back. Yes, pressure is building, and teams get frustrated, but I’m sure the Memphis Grizzlies and Tony Allen will both bounce back.
