The Boston Celtics are seemingly in the middle of every rumor associated with the NBA. The team has performed well all year, currently sitting at the third spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite their success, however, they seem to be in the hunt for a star to join the team.
The Celtics were reportedly close to trading for a star at the trade deadline with numerous names being thrown out since as potential targets. One player who was likely not the target of that near-trade is Al Horford.
The reason for that is simple. According to the Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston feels that it is in a position to sign the soon-to-be free agent outright this summer.
Of course, Boston will face plenty of competition. As one of the top free agents on a market with plenty of cap space to go around, Horford will be receiving max offers from teams across the league. The Celtics may be one of the best options in terms of current winning ability but free agency is far away and many things could happen by that time.
For now, it seems apparent that the Celtics feel they are in prime position in the Al Horford sweepstakes.
