On Friday night, Paramore’s This Is Why Tour stopped in the nation’s capital. During their time at Capital One Arena, the Hayley Williams performed hits like “Decode” and “The Only Exception” along with cuts from their 2023 LP, This Is Why. Toward the end of the show, the band performed one of their earlier hits, “Misery Business.” Adding to the performance, Williams invited Congressman Maxwell Frost from Florida on stage. After introducing him to the crowd, Williams asked the Florida legislator if he’d like to share a message with her fans and Frost did not hold back.
“F*ck Ron DeSantis! F*ck fascism,” he shouted into the microphone as the crowd cheered.

From there, Forst joined the band and a special fan from Dubai in performing the track. Shortly thereafter, the band closed out the show with performances of “Ain’t It Fun” and “This Is Why.”
At 26 years old, Rep. Maxwell Frost is the youngest member of the House of Representatives. Since he was elected in November, the Florida lawmaker has not held back in his criticism of his Republican candidates like Governor Ron DeSantis. Most recently, he offered harsh criticism of his colleagues during a heated debate regarding the pause President Joe Biden put on student debt repayment plans back in 2020.
“If we legislated using the logic that you bring to this issue here today, women and Black folks wouldn’t have the right to vote because it would be unfair to those who never got to vote before them,” Forst said, according to The Hill.
“See, if we legislated using your logic that because there was an injustice, we can’t fix it because it’s unfair to those who never had it fixed — means we would never progress on any issue in this country. Why do you bring that bigoted logic to this issue as it relates to students but not any other issue?”
The comment was later stricken from the record and the pause on student debt repayment is expected to end after August 30. Despite pushback from his colleagues, Frost has remained bold and confident in his approach to legislation. In return, he has earned support from the likes of Williams and many around the country.
