Raymond Muratalla will fight Zaur Abdullaev for the interim IBF lightweight title on May 10, 2025, in San Diego, California. If he’s able to emerge with the interim title, it may set up a major fight down the road. During a recent conversation with The Porter Way co-host Sean Zittel, the unbeaten lightweight contender expressed his desire to fight fellow Top Rank signee and current WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis sooner rather than later.
“The one that makes the most sense is Keyshawn [Davis],” he told Zittel. “He’s with Top Rank, and I’m with Top Rank.”
For a fight between Davis and Muratalla to materialize, the two must first get by in their upcoming bouts. Davis is set to fight Edwin De Los Santos on June 7 in Norfolk, Virginia, at the Scope Arena. Meanwhile, Muratalla must get by the once-beaten Zaur Abdullaev. If so, it would set up the first lightweight bout in which two or more world titles would be on the line since Devin Haney fought George Kambosos nearly three whole years ago. However, Muratalla says he’s keeping focused on the fight in his immediate future, not the potential unification bout down the line.
“I’m not looking past [Abdullaev],” Muratalla said. “I know anything can happen in a fight. I’m gonna be 100% prepared. Whatever he comes with I’m ready for.”
