Former NBA forward Rasheed Wallace will no longer be joining Darvin Ham’s coaching staff with the Los Angeles Lakers. The two sides continued to discuss the move and have decided that it is not the right fit for the time being. Wallace spent last season as an assistant coach under Penny Hardaway with the Memphis Tigers. There is no word currently on Wallace’s plans moving forward. He still likely wants to be a coach somewhere, but he may have to wait this year out before joining another staff.

The Los Angeles Lakers want to right the ship this season and compete for another NBA Championship with Lebron James still on the roster. Newly named Head Coach Darvin Ham will be put to the test early in his new role. Shaping out the perfect coaching staff is vital for success. While Rasheed Wallace has plenty of NBA experience, his overall coaching experience is limited at this point in his career. The Lakers will continue to fill out their coaching staff in preparation for the upcoming season.
Rasheed Wallace has spent time as an assistant coach in both the NBA and in college basketball. He has also spent time as a Head Coach at the high school basketball level. His time at all three levels has been limited thus far and it seems likely the Los Angeles Lakers will want more experience for their new Head Coach. While the two sides did have a mutual interest in each other, the NBA often changes plans fairly quickly. We here at Def Pen Sports wish Wallace the best in his next endeavor with basketball. Def Pen Sports will continue to update any moves that the Los Angeles Lakers or Rasheed Wallace make in the future.
