The cast of HBO’s Rap Sh!t continues to expand. The Issa Rae production will introduce actors Jacob Romero and Kyle Bary to its loyal audience during season two. The young actors will infuse their talent into a hilarious comedy that currently features KaMillion and Aida Osman. Romero will portray a character known as Lord AK, who is described as “a notable musician/rapper from Los Angeles.” Meanwhile, Bary’s character, Courtney Taylor, is described as “an up-and-coming rapper who opens for his friend, Lord AK.” At this time, it is unclear when Bary and Romero’s performances in season two will be ready for the small screen.
Issa Rae’s Rap Sh!t arrives following the success of her HBO debut, Insecure. Inspired by the Hip-hop duo City Girls, the series follows the lives of two friends, Mia and Shawna, from South Florida who unite to form a popular rap duo of their own.
“Rap Sh!t follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who reunite to form a rap group. In their rise to fame, Shawna and Mia find themselves at a pivotal moment in their rap career as they are forced to decide if they will stay true to themselves or conform to the demands of the music industry,” the show’s description reads, according to Deadline.
Season one of Rap Sh!t debuted in July 2022 and earned generally positive reviews. Shanelle Genai of The Root called it “one of the most fun, must-see TV shows this summer.” Qunci Legardye of The A.V. Club called it a “funny-ass show about women trying to change their lives.” Shortly after the first season ended in September 2022, HBO renewed the series for a second chapter.
“We’re so happy to play in the world of Rap Sh!t for another season with this incredibly talented team,” Rae said.
