Jack Del Rio took the Oakland Raiders to the playoffs for the first time in 14 seasons. Mark Davis saw an opportunity and ran with it. Davis ripped up Del Rio’s old contract and officially gave him a new one. Del Rio is locked in as the Oakland Raiders head coach until the 2020 season.
After the extension was given, Mark Davis released a statement:
“The Raiders have torn up Jack Del Rio’s original contract and rewarded him with a new four-year deal. We are excited to continue building on the strong foundation that has been established and this is a significant step in achieving that goal.”
Since Del Rio’s contract was signed in 2015, he was originally under contract until 2019. By giving him an extension, Mark Davis is rewarding his employee for outstanding and excellent work. Mark Davis is not the only happy Raider.
Congrats @coachdelrio ! Well deserved! Just the beginning!

Del Rio took over a 3-13 team at the beginning of the 2015 season. In 2015, he led them to a 7-9 record and last season they went 12-4; their first winning record since 2002. Some might also remember that as the year the Raiders went to the Super Bowl. Many see this as a smart move by Davis. Now, he locks up his head coach and general manager (Reggie McKenzie) until the 2019 season. With this out of the way, Davis can focus on moving the team to Las Vegas.
