Over the last few years, New York has produced some of the biggest records of the summer. In the summer of 2014, Bobby Shmurda came out of nowhere to drop “Hot N*gga.” Not too long afterwards, 2Milly came with the “Milly Rock” and Young M.A. had “Ooouuu.” More recently, Cardi B had “Bodak Yellow” and Drake’s “In My Feelings” got a huge assist from Shiggy last summer. This summer, it appears that “Old Town Road” is the early favorite for the mythical title, but the internet makes it possible for any record to pop up the Spotify and YouTube charts at any moment. One New York record that is quickly gaining steam is Pop Smoke’s “Welcome To The Party.”
New York’s own, Poppa Da Don and Cole Caine, put their own spin on Pop Smoke’s latest record. Keeping the same energy of the original, Poppa Da Don raps, “Baby, welcome to the party! I’m off the patron, percies and lean. That’s why I’m moving retarded. I got big guns. I’ve been shoot retarded.” Cole Caine raps, “I got the pistol with me. I’ll kill a n*gga and then get a lawyer for a 100 bands. No new n*ggas with me.
