George spent his Saturday night in Oklahoma City celebrating with friends and associates, including star teammate Russell Westbrook and members from the Thunder organization.
The deal between George and the Thunder was believed to be reached prior to Saturday, with the massive party planned days in advance. George’s interest in playing for the Lakers is well-documented, but he ultimately chose to stay in Oklahoma on a four-year, $137 million contract, according to ESPN.com. The fourth season contains a player option.
The Thunder confirmed George’s intentions to sign a new contract on social media. George cannot officially sign his contract until July 6, when the NBA’s league-wide moratorium period lifts.
George also took to social media after news of his intentions were announced.
George, a four-time NBA All-Star, was traded to the Thunder one year ago in a blockbuster agreement involving Victor Oladipo. The Thunder were eliminated by the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 2018 Playoffs.
