McCaw’s signing with the Raptors comes on the heels of his signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers in late December and subsequently being waived in early January. The NBA is now planning to investigate the nature of the Cavs’ quick release of McCaw, a move the NBA is going forward with at the request of McCaw’s former team, the Golden State Warriors.
The signing of McCaw will serve to add depth to a Toronto team that is currently first in the Eastern Conference with a record of 31-12. McCaw, a second-round draft pick in 2016, will seek to use his opportunity with the Raptors to improve on his recent individual performances, averaging just 1.7 points per game in his three appearances for the Cavaliers.
