After one of his former players came out and accused him of using the phrase “I want to loosen the noose around your neck” Pat Chambers has resigned from his position as head coach of Penn State. Chambers was under investigation after that statement was made public by former Penn State guard Rasir Bolton. Bolton made public his reason for transferring from Penn State to Iowa State earlier this summer.
After a solid start to his freshman year, it was clear once the comment was made that Bolton’s play fell off before deciding to leave. Chambers overall had a negative record in his nine seasons at Penn State. To his credit, he was double digit wins above .500 two of the last three years including winning the NIT in 2017-2018. He also never made an NCAA Tourament appearance in those nine seasons.

Penn State has announced that Jim Ferry will be this year’s interim coach for the team. Practices have already begun for most schools and a change this late in the process is unusual. The team is expected to finish in the bottom five of the conference this year after a solid season was cut short by Covid last season.
