The Starz hit series, P-Valley, is the latest series to pause production due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. P-Valley joins shows like Billions, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Yellowjackets and Abbott Elementary that have halted writing work due to the strike. On Wednesday, the show’s creator and showrunner, Katori Hall, issued a firm statement in support of the strike.
“We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached,” Hall said, according to Deadline.
“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked…I am also a member of the DGA whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”
Hall and company reportedly began filming its third season in Atlanta, Georgia prior to the start of the strike with the hope of debuting a new season sometime this summer. Like many other series, P-Valley‘s immediate future is up in the air as members of the WGA seek shorter exclusivity deals, improved staffing requirements, increase pay, better residuals and safeguards regarding the use of AI. Recently, President Joe Biden offered support for striking writers at a White House premiere of American Born Chinese.
“Nights like these are a reminder of the power of stories and the importance of treating storytellers with the dignity, respect and value they deserve,” the President said.
“I sincerely hope that the writers’ strike in Hollywood gets resolved — and the writers are given the fair deal they deserve, as soon as possible. This is an iconic, meaningful American industry. We need the writers — and all the workers — and everyone involved to tell the stories of our nation. And the stories of all of us.”
