Moments after picking up stoppage victory at Crypto.com Arena in July, Ryan Garcia let the world know that he’d like to fight Gervonta “Tank” Davis next.
“I’m not going back to 135 for nothing, but I want Tank next,” Garcia said.
“I’m never afraid, I have a spirit of competition. You’re going to see that when I fight Tank.”
Two weeks later, Garcia’s representatives at Golden Boy Promotions appeared optimistic as negotiations begin to unfold.
“Everybody is eager about that fight. That is the only fight Ryan wants. That’s the only fight that Tank wants,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV.
“Look, we’re talking. We’re talking, so, yeah, it’s a great start. To get to talk to the other side is a great start. We want the fight. That’s the bottom line.”
Well, it appears that De La Hoya’s optimism has been crushed. Hours after De La Hoya shared an update regarding the negotiations, he indicated that he’s “moving on” with Garcia’s career.
“Hey, we’re trying to get a hold of Tank’s side. We don’t know who to talk to. Nobody picks up their phone, nobody calls back,” De La Hoya said as he left Dickies Arena following Vergil Ortiz Jr.’s ninth-round knockout of Michael McKinson.
Instead of securing a fight with Davis and Mayweather Promotions, it appears that De La Hoya would like Ryan Garcia to fight Teofimo Lopez later this year.
“I feel they’re playing games, so I’m moving on, and I’m going to Teofimo’s fight next week,” Oscar De La Hoya declared.
Lopez is set to fight Pedro Campa in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 13. If he wins, he could find himself in a pay-per-view event with Garcia next.
