Onika “Nicki Minaj” Maraj-Petty sits at the center of a bubbling legal kerfuffle.
On Saturday, April 21, 2024, Nicki Minaj performed at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. After the show, Brandon Garrett, who reportedly worked as Minaj’s day-to-day manager, says the GRAMMY-nominated act tasked him with an errand. Once the errand was completed, Garrett says he was asked to stop by her dressing room. When he arrived at the dressing room, Garrett claims Minaj was questioning members of her team about their day-to-day responsibilities. During the conversation, Garrett claims the artist became enraged when she learned that he had once asked someone else to pick up one of her prescriptions.
“Are you f—g crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f—g mind if my husband were here, he would knock out your f—g teeth. You’re a dead man walking. You just f—d up your whole life and you will never be anyone. I’ll make sure of it,” Garrett claims Minaj told him.
Then, Garrett claims Minaj struck him, causing his head to fly back and his hat fall off of his head. According to Garrett, Minaj’s security team moved in and she knocked documents out of his hand before telling him to leave. Afterward, Garrett says he went to the restroom, called his fiancée and remained inside for hours out of fear for his safety.
On Friday, January 3, 2025, Garrett reportedly filed a formal complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court. Minaj’s attorneys have claimed the allegation levied against the superstar are “completely false and frivolous.”
“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Minaj’s attorney, Judd Burstein, stated.
“However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”
