R&B won yesterday, today and will probably win again tomorrow thanks to artists like Jon Vinyl. Coming out of Toronto, Vinyl has one of the smoothest voices in R&B today. With singles like “Late Bloomer” and “Addicted,” he has set himself up nicely over the years to have an incredible run in 2021. To get things going, he has delivered “Told You.”
Vinyl first teased the record last week with a short a capella video last week. Sitting in his apartment, fans find Vinyl delivering a strong performance of his new single. Then, someone calls and interrupts what could have been a great moment.
In the short snippet, fans were able to hear the Toronto singer is seemingly going through the ups and downs of a tough break. Sitting in his apartment alone, he’s reflecting on all of the highs and lows of the relationship as he wishes he could’ve expressed how he truly felt before things took a turn for the worse.
“The ideation of ‘Told You’ sparked during a tough break up,” he said about the new single.
“My significant other and I weren’t on the best terms, ultimately leading to a huge lack of communication in our relationship. I was in this hopeful headspace where I felt like I needed to let her know that she is my person and that we can get through this, which wasn’t easy. Feeling quite helpless, I turned to what I know – the pen and paper – to create this song which encapsulates all the things I was having trouble expressing to her back then.”
The full track is finally here and fans can finally hear all that Vinyl was trying to convey before a phone call interrupted the a capella session.
