For this article, we will see some of the betting odds that FanDuel has for the New England Patriots in the 2023 season.
Total Wins 7.5
Last season, the Patriots finished with an 8-9 record that would barely get the over for this season. According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Pats have the hardest schedule this season given the conference and division they play in. Six games of their schedule are against the Bills, Dolphins, and Jets; three teams that are expected to make the playoffs. There are also some “easy” games against the Commanders, Steelers and Colts. There is a path for the Pats to get the over and with Bill Belichick in command we can be optimistic that they can get the over this season.
AFC East Title: +800
So, if 7.5 is the expected wins for the team in the 2023 season, what are the chances for the Patriots to win the division title of the AFC East? Well, they are last in the betting odds. The current favorites? Three-time consecutive division winner the Buffalo Bills (+120). The New York Jets (+250) are in second and the Dolphins (+290) are in third. There’s a big gap between the top three teams in the division and the New England Patriots given that the other teams improved their roster to compete for a spot in the playoffs.
Defensive Rookie of the Year
The Patriots drafted CB Christian Gonzalez in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft and currently, he is fifth in betting odds at +1600. In the last eight seasons, three cornerbacks have won the award with the latest being Sauce Gardner last year with the Jets. Gonzalez appeared initially as a long shot but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he wins it. Belichick knows how to develop cornerbacks into top players on defense and Gonzalez has all the talent to get there. However, we have to pay attention to his availability as he had a lower-leg injury during training but he is expected to go for Week 1.
Player Props
For this section, we have several options on player props for Patriots players. You could bet Mac Jones over 20 passing touchdowns in the regular season at -110 and parlay it with the over in passing yards set at 3175.5. You could also check the running options with Rhamondre Stevenson getting 10+ TDs in the regular season if you feel optimistic about his future performance as the first running option on the team. One of the latest additions in free agency is Ezekiel Elliot. We have the over/under of rushing touchdowns at 4.5 and the rushing yards at 375.5. Player props always have a lot of options to play with and create the bet you have high hopes for.
Week 1 Matchup
The Patriots start the season at home against the Philadelphia Eagles but are a five-point underdog. The Eagles start the season as one of the favorites to win the NFC after losing the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. An Eagles win is very likely but we can’t cross off the Patriots at home with Belichick at command. The +4.5 line for the Patriots is a good pick given the defense in New England is always tough to beat. A small-margin win for the Eagles paired with the under on point total of 45 is a nice parlay to start our betting journey in the 2023 NFL season.
