This may be the understatement of the year but, November is a pretty big month for Netflix. Two of their most serious Oscar contenders are dropping as well as a truckload of popular original content just in time for the holidays. But even that’s not all as there are also some exciting non-original additions being made to their catalog this month.
To kick the month of November, most of the new non-original content is landing on the 1st, such as an intriguing 2017 documentary about Apache pilots called Apache Warrior. And speaking of documentaries, the second season National Geographic’s Mars, which mixes documentary-style interviews with scripted drama, will become available on the platform. But, without a doubt, the biggest release landing on the 1st is Netflix’s next original historical epic, The King starring Timothee Chalamet in the titular role as England’s King Henry V.
Later on during the first week of the month, we’ll be getting the second season of The End of the F***ing World on the 5th. Considering the ending of the first season ended with a pretty pivotal death(no spoilers), it’ll be interesting to see how the second plays out. The middle of November isn’t all that exciting honestly. On the 10th, new episodes of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj will start dropping weekly. And then on the 17th, season 3 of The Crown will drop, featuring its new cast of actors portraying older versions of all the characters.
Then, on the 27th, Netflix’s biggest original drops in The Irishman. Martin Scorsese’s latest crime epic has been in the works for a few years now and is expected to be Netflix’s most serious Oscar contender to-date. Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci are starring in an epic that spans decades and looks to test the limits of Hollywood’s current de-aging ability. And, with a reported budget of over $140 million, Netflix is surely hoping this finally gets them over the Oscar hump with the ‘streaming wars’ on the horizon.
