Cynthia Love has reportedly filed a $30,000 lawsuit against Netflix and filmmakers Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah for the way she was portrayed in the Jeen-Yuhs documentary.
One year ago, Simmons and Ozah debuted a documentary series called Jeen-Yuhs. The three-part documentary contained hours of previously unseen footage of Kanye West. Within one portion of the documentary, Simmons and Ozah used footage from West’s popular “Through The Wire” music video. In the opening moments of the video, Love is seen dancing inside of a restaurant and she says that she was only $20 for the appearance. The documentary also shares an extended portion of the recording that is not included in the final music video.
At the time of the recording, Love says that she was in an “altered state and not capable of providing consent.” According to a report from TMZ, she further elaborates that the footage has now caused her emotional distress and harmed her reputation. She is reportedly seeking $30,000 in damages.
Thus far, Simmons nor Ozah has filed an official statement regarding the matter.
