Netflix has reportedly acquired a documentary highlighting the life and times of Kanye West. With nearly two decades of archival footage, the documentary is expected to highlight the majority of West’s music career along with his failed presidential bid and his relationship with his mother.
The upcoming documentary is directed by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, better known as Coodie & Chike. The duo is best known for directing West’s “Jesus Walks” video. Over the years, they have led the ESPN documentary, Benji, and the “Through The Wire” video. The dup also led the Stephon Marbury documentary, A Kid From Coney Island.
Initially, it was reported that Netflix bought the film for $30 million. However, Variety has refuted those reports. Either way, it is their second large acquisition in recent weeks. The streaming platform reportedly purchased two sequels of Knives Out for an estimated $450 million.
At this time, it is unclear when the documentary will be rolled out. It is also unclear if the project will be a feature-length documentary or a documentary series. Stay tuned for more details regarding the project.
