The Elite Eight is set as the remaining four games of the Sweet 16 were played on Friday Night.
South Region:
UCLA 62 Gonzaga 72:
The seconded seeded Bulldogs downed the 10th seeded Bruins, to earn a spot into the Elite Eight. Przemek Karnowski led the way for the Zags, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds setting up a meeting with the One seed in the South Region, Duke. UCLA opened the second half on a 6-0 run to cut Gonzaga’s lead to one. The Bulldogs would respond to that by going on a 12-0 run of their own and never looked back.
Duke 63 Utah 57:
Duke’s victory over Utah has set up a One versus two seed matchup in the South Regional Final on Sunday. Freshmen Justise Winslow, playing in his home city of Houston, had a homecoming party showing out for his hometown fans. Winslow finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, a day after his 19th birthday. Winslow became the third freshman in Duke history to have at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in an NCAA Tournament game.
NC State 65 Louisville 75: (East Region)
Fourth seeded Louisville is back in the Elite Eight for the second time in three years after defeating the 8th seeded NC State Wolfpack by ten in Syracuse. Rick Pitinio coached teams are 12-1 now in Sweet 16 games. The Cardinals were led by Montrezl Harrell and Terry Rozier, who combined for 41 points and 21 rebounds.
Michigan State 62 Oklahoma 58:
The seventh seeded Spartans just continue to get in done in March, knocking off the three seeded Oklahoma Sooners. Tom Izzo’s squad is heading to the Elite Eight for the fourth time in six years and is the lowest remaining seed left in the tournament. MSU’s Travis Trice hit two free throws to put Michigan State up four with 13.2 seconds left. Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield missed a three-point attempt on what became the Sooners’ final possession. Trice would lead MSU in scoring, finishing with 24 points, as the senior continues to have a great showing to the NCAA Tournament. This sets up an East Regional final game between Michigan State and Tom Izzo facing Louisville and Rick Pitinio.
