On February 16, 2025, Nasir “Nas” Jones was honored by the NYS Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislators (NYSABPRHAL). The GRAMMY Award-winner from Queens, New York performed at the association’s Sneaker Gala in Albany, New York and received a special proclamation NYSABPRHAL Chair Latrice Walker. Walker praised Nas for his “work with young people around the State of New York” and his “incredible contributions to society.”
“Today we are honoring Nasir Jones, AKA Nas…the New York State Assembly is proud to recognize those who have made incredible contributions to society. We have heard about your work with young people around the State of New York,” Walker said, according to QNS. “He released 17 studio albums and is a savvy investor in several successful businesses. Hereby, we proclaim on behalf of the speaker and our majority leader in the New York State Assembly and Senate that we had to pause our deliberations to honor none other than Nasir Jones, AKA Nas, on this day. We love you, Nas.”
Nas is no stranger to special proclamations and honors from political figures. In 2016, he and his daughter, Destiny, visited the White House and met with President Barack Obama. Six years later, he received the key to Queens. Most recently, New York City Councilman Justin Brannan suggested he receive the key to the entire city.
