The Venom sequel may’ve already found its second villain. Last week it was reported that the film would be adding Shriek as a villain to work alongside Carnage. And now, according to Variety, Naomie Harris is already in final talks to portray the villain in the film.
If a deal is made, Harris would be joining Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, and Michelle Williams, who are all set to reprise their roles from the first film. Andy Serkis is attached to direct. Not much is known about the film’s plot but, it is set to feature Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady/Carnage taking on Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom. It’s expected to draw heavily on the ‘Maximum Carnage’ storyline which featured both Shriek and Spider-Man but, only the former has been confirmed to appear so far.
Before Venom 2 though, Harris will appear later this year in the corrupt cop drama, Black and Blue. And she’s also set to reprise her role as Eve Moneypenny in next year’s 25th James Bond film, No Time to Die. She’s also currently in the midst of filming HBO’s next mystery series, The Third Day, alongside Jude Law.
The first Venom soared at the box office despite a poor critical response. It was responsible for the largest-ever October opening, a title it’s since lost to Todd Phillips’ Joker. All in though, the film earned upwards of $800 million worldwide when it hit theaters last year.
Venom 2 hits theaters on October 2nd, 2020.
