Juwan Howard is starting to get things really going as he enters his second season at Michigan. With Moussa Diabate committing to Michigan today, the school now owns the number one recruiting class for the 2021 class. Diabate’s commitment comes just weeks after Howard secured a pledge from fellow 2021 five-star Caleb Houstan.
Diabate had strongly considered reclassifying to the class of 2020 but ultimately decided to stay in his current class. Kentucky and Michigan were the only two real schools in the final mix for Diabate’s pledge. With Diabate in the fold and expected to sign this week when the signing period opens up, it gives the Wolverines six 2021 commits. In just a short time at the school, Howard is starting to build something solid and really put his stamp on the program.

In Diabate, Michigan is getting a high-motor athlete who’s relentless and competitive on not only the boards but the defensive end as well. He’s not exactly a playmaker or someone with a ton of offensive skill at the point in time but it could certainly develop while playing under Howard. What he does have are skills that often get freshmen out on the floor early in their careers under coaches who value defense and rebounding. His competitiveness should thrive at a place like Michigan whose culture the last few years have been built on toughness. Will be interesting to see how quickly Diabate and Houstan become major factors in Ann Arbor under Howard.
