A little while after the NBA saw the Milwaukee Bucks begin a protest that is now rolling throughout the rest of the sports world. The Bucks chose to sit out their playoff contest tonight against the Orlando Magic to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake.
The latest reports show that the Milwaukee Brewers will be the first Major League Baseball team to sit out tonight’s contest. The game between the Brewers and Reds has been cancelled and postponed amid the protest. It has been rumored that the Seattle Mariners could also sit out their contest tonight, which could start a domino effect of team’s sitting out tonight’s games.
Here are a few tweets published in regards to the Brewers participation in the protest:
Following the cancellation of the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds game tonight, more teams are discussing the possibility of not playing, sources tell ESPN. Among those currently discussing it: the Seattle Mariners, who have the most Black players of any team in MLB.

As the night unfolds, it appears that teams like the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners are exploring the possibility of sitting out their contests tonight. Not a forfeit situation, instead of mutual agreements to sit out, as both organizations are working with opponents.
All of this stems in the protest of Jacob Blake, who was shot in the back in Kenosha, Wisconsin, while his three sons sat in the car. Blake miraculously is alive and in a hospital after being shot seven times by a white police officer who arrived on the scene. Blake, a black man, was reported to be trying to break up a dispute when the officer arrived, ultimately shooting Blake seven times. Since then, protests have rung out, and the sports world is now seeing this.
While there has not been any indication, there will be other teams who sit out games, a recent tweet from Jeff Passan offers a bigger quote from Milwaukee Brewers reliever Josh Hader.
BREAKING: Following the boycott of the Brewers-Reds game, all games tonight will be cancelled. In an interview with Josh Hader he said quote, “The whole season is likely over.”

The eerie-ness of this tweet suggests that tonight’s protest, initiated by the Brewers, may not be the last as it could continue throughout just tonight. Passan also went on to note that this protest could span farther and cause all of Major League Baseball to sit tonight out amid the protest.
This was an excellent move for the Brewers to start the protest in Major League Baseball as it now appears it will spread beyond just the Brewers and Reds game from tonight.
