It appears that Mikaela Mayer is ready to say goodbye to the super featherweight division. As the new year begins, the California native will transition into the lightweight division. At her new weight, Everything Boxing reports that she will share the ring with Christina Linardatou. However, no date or venue has been determined for the highly-anticipated bout.
Mikaela Mayer had a successful run within the super featherweight division. She picked up three belts and amassed a record of 17-1 with five knockouts. However, she suffered the first defeat of her pro career on October 15, 2022 at the O2 Arena in London against Alycia Baumgardner. At lightweight, she will face stiff competition from Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon.
Christina Linardatou will introduce Mayer to the lightweight division later this year. Hailing from the Dominican Republic, she boasts a record of 14-2 with six knockouts. Interestingly enough, Linardatou is the only woman to defeat Alycia Baumgardner as a pro.
Linardatou and Mayer will both compete for a shot at undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor at a venue and date to be determined. Stay tuned for more details regarding this bout.
