Notre Dame Fighting Irish tight end Michael Mayer will declare for the 2023 NFL Draft and skip the team’s bowl game. He is projected to be the top tight end selected in the 2023 NFL Draft and perhaps even a top ten pick. Notre Dame will play in the 2022 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl this year without their star tight end on the field. The risk of an injury that could hurt his draft stock was not worth it for Mayer at this time. Now he will prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft in the Spring.

In his three-year career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michael Mayer caught 180 passes for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is also considered an above-average blocker in both the run game and pass game. Mayer should be a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft in the spring after a phenomenal career with Notre Dame. His time with the program will be well remembered and he earned his way into the spot of fan favorite in those three years with the program. Notre Dame is set to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 2022 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on December 30th at 3:30 p.m. EST.
