Michael Beasley is back in the NBA and we are all better for it. The infamous former second overall pick signed with the New York Knicks earlier this summer as he attempts a comeback in the league.
On Tuesday, the gifted scorer spoke to reporters in a scrum and gave some of the greatest quotes ever heard.
On playing with Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks’ star who has been the subject of trade speculation for months, Beasley had the following to say:
“I can play with anybody so I’m not really worried about taking minutes or sharing minutes or anything like that, man. It’s a team effort and we all wanna play to win. […] Yes, I do score but I’m not just a scorer. […] Listen, Carmelo is like my mentor. If you watch my game like you really watch my game – my jab series and all that – I’m literally just Carmelo on the left side of the floor. […] I’m coming to the Knicks and I’m looking forward to playing with Carmelo.
Confidence has never been an issue for Super Cool Beas and comparing himself to an all-time great scorer (while not using the word “literally” correctly) is just the most recent example.
But that’s not all Beasley talked about. The forward is making up lost time in the NBA and made it known that he plans to stay in the league for some time, telling reporters “I’m still young, bro. I’m 28. I plan to play at least till I’m 43.”
Beasley also showed his confidence in the Knicks as a whole, penciling in the team as a comfortable playoff squad: “I think we got the potential to not only be a playoff team but a 5-6 seed team.”
The Kansas State product did make it real for a bit as he talked about his journey in the NBA and what has led him to the Knicks at this point: ” My career is like none other. I’ve wanted to be here so long and this or that, whether my fault or somebody else’s fault, has kept me out. I still have the chance to be one of the best in the NBA.”
Beasley finished it all off with another great quote in true Michael Beasley fashion:
“I’m your favorite player’s favorite player.”
