Fans of explosions and over-the-top action rejoice! Director Michael Bay hasn’t wrapped up his current project but already has his next film set. According to Collider, the infamous director has set Black 5 as his next project at Sony Pictures. Unfortunately, that’s about all we know about the film right now.
Bay has been hard at work on Six Underground for Netflix this year. Set for release in December, Six Underground tells the story of six billionaires who fake their own deaths to fight crime as vigilantes. The tale of these wannabe Bruce Waynes should make for an interesting spin on the superhero genre, especially with Bay’s very… specific sense of direction.
His Sony deal marks something of a homecoming for the director. Bay made his directorial debut at the studio back in 1995 with Bad Boys. He also directed the 2003 sequel for Sony and was interested in directing the third but the franchise was instead handed over to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. That’s mostly due to the film’s long journey to the big screen. A third Bad Boys was rumored for a long time but seemed unlikely, even to the film’s stars. However, last year it was confirmed and has already completed filming with a January 17th release date.
Bay’s Six Underground hits Netflix in December 2019.
