The Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons completed a three team trade that will sent Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi to the Toronto Raptors, Jose Calderon to the Pistons and Ed Davis, Austin Daye, Tayshaun Prince and a 2nd round pick to Memphis.
Gay, 26, is the better player in this deal, that’s a fact, but the Grizzlies were going to trade one of their biggest contracts sooner or later and they decided to part ways with the talented forward now rather that in the offseason. Getting a young, talented big like Davis is far from bad. The Raptors got the scorer they lacked for years while also trading Jose Calderon, who has an expiring contract of 10.5 million that will help the Pistons clear some cap space and getting rid of Prince and Daye also contributes to that.
The Pistons and The Grizzlies are the big winners of this trade in the long run, despite none of them getting the big name as Toronto got with Rudy Gay. Now, if Toronto could make more deals and get rid of the players that shouldn’t be making what they are, getting Gay could be consider as the move that helped the Raptors get to a respectable place around basketball circles.
Once the teams complete a trade call with the league office this will be a done deal.
