The Marlins have sent starting pitcher Caleb Smith and reliever Humberto Mejia over to the Diamondbacks in exchange for Marte. The Marlins will also send a player to be named later (PTBNL) over to the Diamondbacks, which has become increasingly common during this trade deadline.
It was noted that the Diamondbacks did not intend on keeping Marté around, so they shipped him off for whatever they could get, in the process, landing three players.
Marté has a 2021 team option, which is what was indicated by the Diamondbacks that they were not going to pick up. In 2020 however, Marté has played in 33 games where he has hit .311/.384/.443 with two home runs and 14 RBI on the season.
This past offseason, Marté eas sent over to the Diamondbacks in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates that sent two prospects, including supplemental first-rounder Brennan Malone to the Pirates.
The Diamondbacks are just another team that has been active as the 2020 MLB trade deadline creeps closer and closer.
