Texas Tech Red Raiders Head Coach Mark Adams has stepped down from his position with the program. This comes after Adams was suspended after players in the program accused him of racially insensitive comments. An incident from earlier in the season also accused him of spitting on a player. Adams reportedly was quoting a bible reference about slaves and masters to his players during a practice. Texas Tech suspended the Head Coach and began an investigation. This announcement comes just after the team was eliminated in the first round of the 2023 Big 12 Tournament by the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The exact bible verse that Mark Adams was quoting was: “about workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters.” Earlier in the season he was accused of spitting on a player and saying “I can spit on you whenever I want to”. Adams has denied the allegations of him spitting on a player and said he had a bad cough that week and accidentally slobbered on a player. Regardless now that the college basketball season is likely over for the Red Raiders, Adams has decided to step down from the program.
After Chris Beard left the program for the Texas Longhorns job, Mark Adams did a great job in his first year as the Head Coach. In the offseason several key players transferred from the program and cryptically cited Adams as the reason. With this coming to light now, some things there make more sense. The Texas Tech Red Raiders will join the coaching carousel this offseason.
