When Marcin Gortat started his NBA career with the Orlando Magic, he wore number 13, but that had to change when he was traded to Phoenix. Steve Nash already had the number, and there was no way he was going to be able to take that away from an all-time great.
After being traded to Washington, Gortat quickly found out Kevin Seraphin was already sporting the number 13 jersey, and he would have to stick to number 4. No issue was made, and the Polish Hammer decided to keep the number four he wore throughout his time in Phoenix with the Suns.
With the French big man headed to the Knicks after signing a deal in free agency, number 13 is available for the taking.
I hope I can come back to my number #13

A switch of numbers may anger some fans hoping to have the most current jersey, but they won’t take it personally if their starting center is happy. A new number for Gortat may take some getting used to kind of like when he got a new hair due.
