On Friday, January 26, 2024, Dallas Mavericks Point Guard Luka Doncic put together a historic performance against the Atlanta Hawks.
First, Doncic poured in a franchise-record 41 points in the first half. Then, he poured in another 32 points in the second half to finish with a career-high 73 points. At the end of the night, Doncic walked away with the fourth-highest single-game scoring performance in NBA history and the Mavericks picked up a much-needed five-point win against the Hawks.
“We’ve been struggling lately,” Doncic said after the game.
“Mindset was [to] get a win. We played great.”
Doncic is now one of only 10 players in NBA history to score 70 or more points in a regular-season game. Furthermore, only Kobe Bryant, who scored 81 points on January 22, 2006, and Wilt Chamberlin, who finished his career with 100-point and 78-point performances, have scored more points in an NBA game.
“Those names are special,” Doncic said.
“It’s unbelievable.”
Doncic is back in Dallas, Texas after his historic performance, but he may not take the court on Saturday night against the Sacramento Kings. The all-star scorer is listed as questionable due to right ankle soreness.
