In December, Luis Alberto Lopez traveled to Leeds, England to fight Josh Warrington for the IBF Featherweight Title. After winning the title, it appears he will travel to Northern Ireland and fight former champion Michael Conlan at SSE Arena later this year.
“Talks are still ongoing. We are hoping to have some kind of direction on how things are moving in the next week to 10 days,” Conlan’s brother and promoter, Jamie, said.
“But Lopez is where our thoughts are and what our preparations are going into. May 27 has been floated around as the date we are targeting.”
Lopez fought three times in 2022. Things kicked off with back-to-back knockout wins against Raul Chirino and Yeison Vargas. Then, he completed the trifecta with a majority decision win against Warrington for the IBF Featherweight Championship.
Conlan was also active throughout the last year. He suffered a knockout loss against Leigh Wood in the 12th round last March. From there, he bounced back with a decision win against Miguel Marriaga in August and a knockout loss against Karim Guerfi in December.
The two fighters may put their winning streaks on May 27, 2023 at SSE Arena in Northern Ireland.
