Louisiana State University has issued an apology after critics took issue with a portion of basketball star Flau’jae Johnson’s “Put It On Da Floor” freestyle.
Two weeks ago, chart-topping recording artist Latto released the “Put It On Da Floor” video. Racking up more than a million views on YouTube, it caught the attention of LSU Guard Flau’jae Johnson, who is also a Roc Nation recording artist. Wasting no time, she put her own spin on the record and it earned the approval of her fans. However, it also crossed over and caught the attention of David Hookstead, a reporter for the polarizing, conservative media outlet, Outkick. Hookstead particularly took issue with one of Johnson’s metaphors.
“In this 911 blowing smoke just like them towers,” Johnson raps.
“Disgusting. I know people who still struggle to sleep at night because of what they did in war after 9/11. She thinks it’s a joke,” Hookstead commented.
Over time, criticism of the “Put It On Da Floor” freestyle found its way back to administrators at LSU. Earlier today, the university issued a statement regarding the freestyle.
“While she never intended to offend or upset anyone with her lyrics, she expressed sincere remorse for any possibility of a misunderstanding and immediately took the video down,” the university told FOX News.
“We will learn and grow from this experience together.”
Johnson nor Roc Nation has responded to the criticism levied by Hookstead and others.
