Drake has made it a habit to spotlight and collaborate with emerging artists that he is a fan of throughout the years. Whether it’s working with the Migos back in 2013 as they were breaking on the national scene or reaching out to Ice Spice last year, the Toronto native has been happy to co-sign artists that he believes are next up. Most recently, he gave props to his right-hand man, Chubbs, and an artist that he has been working closely with called Lavi$h.
“Chubbs is doing his thing. He has some incredible artists that he’s been playing for me. Lavi$h and a couple of other people that he’s been working with,” he said during an interview in December 2022.
Two months have passed since Drake shouted Lavi$h out and the Winnipeg native has flown under the radar for the time being. As he puts it, he’s “been quiet for a few years but, for good reason.” Well, he’s decided this weekend that he’s been quiet for long enough and he’s ready to make his voice heard.
Kicking off the weekend, Lavi$h has set the stage with his new single, “World In My Hands.” Arriving just after Valentine’s Day, the smooth, soulful track allows the Zambia-born artist to showcase a voice that is both expansive and fractious at times. Even in the moments that he appears to stretch his voice and hit higher notes, he’s able to convey this sense of emotion and passion in his sound. In many instances, listeners say they need to believe a rapper when he’s spitting a verse. In this case, there isn’t a moment where the listener won’t believe Lavi$h is invested in every last word he sings.
It’s easy to see why Chubbs and Drake are complimentary of the emerging talent. Check out his “World In My Hands” video below.
