Larry Wilmore is reportedly working on his next project at ABC. After launching Black-ish at ABC with Kenya Barris nearly a decade ago, Wilmore has returned to develop a comedy at the network called Lately. Per Deadline, the series will take a “behind-the-scenes look at the upstairs-downstairs dynamics of the people who work at a late-night talk show.”
Wilmore has plenty of experience to draw from while creating his new series. Previously, he hosted The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on Comedy Central and Wilmore on Peacock. Not to be forgotten, he also frequently appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Beyond his work in late-night television, Wilmore has built up one of the strongest resumés in television. Throughout his career, he has co-created Insecure with Issa Rae and executive produced The Bernie Mac Show. More recently, he has turned to podcasting as the host of Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air on Spotify.
ABC is no stranger to success with comedy series either. The network has delivered a number of successful comedies in recent years, including Black-ish, Modern Family and Abbott Elementary.
