Charlotte Hornets star point guard LaMelo Ball has fractured his right ankle, with news coming just after the game Monday night. The injury was no contact and occurred during the team’s 117-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Ankle injuries have plagued Ball this season with this one likely ending his season though the team has not announced that at this time. The Hornets are on a five-game win streak largely thanks to the play of Ball. The team is unlikely to make the Playoffs this season and should consider moving to a tanking model to close the season.

This season with the Charlotte Hornets, LaMelo Ball was averaging 23.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He has paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 40.7 percent and a three-point percentage of 36.7 percent. An overall frustrating season for both Ball and the team full of injuries and losing basketball. Moving forward the team will likely close the season with even more losses.
The Charlotte Hornets are currently the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference Standings with an overall record of 20-43. They are currently a bottom-four team in the NBA wich puts them in a good spot for the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery. We here at Def Pen Sports wish LaMelo Ball the best in his recovery and eventual return to the court.
