The 2021 NBA Free Agency Period delivered some hopeful news. NBA power forward LaMarcus Aldridge is debating a return to the NBA after a medical consultation. He was last with the Brooklyn Nets but was forced to retire in mid-April because of a heart condition that was discovered. The beloved member of the NBA is now considering a return to basketball but would have to be cleared to play before he could sign an NBA contract.
Aldridge ultimately needs team medical clearance to sign a contract to play and is expected to have conversations with individual teams in the coming weeks, per sources. Aldridge has yet to make a final decision on playing again.

Nothing is certain yet, but this is potentially good news. Injuries and medical conditions have taken players away from the games they love before and most of them do not get a redo. LaMarcus Aldridge has a chance to leave the league on his own terms if he can make it back. It is unclear if the Brooklyn Nets will have a spot for him, but it is hard to believe that not a single team would take the chance on the 15-year veteran if he’s made available to play. Maybe he could return to Portland and end his career where it all started?

The journey back to the NBA given his age and medical condition won’t be easy and he hasn’t formally decided to attempt a comeback. It could be an amazing story if he does indeed join a team for one final ride. We here at Def Pen Sports wish Aldridge the best of luck and will keep everyone updated on his current status.
