Lakers Will Not Pursue Derek Fisher For Coaching Job
The Los Angeles Lakers are still in active pursuit of a replacement for Mike D’Antoni as their next head coach, but former point guard Derek Fisher will reportedly not be on their list of candidates. The Lakers are adamant about hiring a head coach with prior experience, obviously absolving Fisher from contention, which was assumed because of his relationship with the Lakers, Kobe Bryant, and also the possibility of him becoming the head coach of the New York Knicks.
The Lakers have interviewed Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis, Alvin Gentry, Lionel Hollins, and Mike Dunleavy in person. Sources close to the situation say it’s a 50-50 chance that they make a decision before the NBA Draft on June 26.
