As the NBA continues it’s global expanse to different countries across the globe, so does their annual tradition of playing a regular season game in London, England.
Typically composed of two of the more high-profile teams in the association, the 2019 NBA London Game will feature the New York Knicks and Washington Wizards according to a press release:
The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) announced today that the NBA London Game 2019 will feature a regular-season game between the Washington Wizards and the New York Knicks at The O2 on Thursday, Jan. 17.
Tickets for the game will go on sale in the autumn. Fans can register their interest in tickets and gain access to presale information and more by visiting www.NBA.com/London.
The NBA in London originated over a decade ago when a 2007 preseason game was played there between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers. Last year’s regular season matchup featured a Celtics victory over the 76ers in which Kyrie Irving scored 20 points.
Though the Washington Wizards have been a fixture in the Eastern Conference playoffs in recent years, the Knicks look to be on the rise and enter that conversation as well. Big man Kristaps Porzingis paired with a looming high pick in the 2018 NBA Draft should provide a compelling matchup for fans in London.
The entertainment factor is certainly there with Porzingis and the explosive All-Star backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal in Washington. It’ll be interesting to see these two teams square off overseas around halfway into the 2018-19 campaign on January 17.
