On Thursday, February 8, Keyshawn Davis earned the most significant victory of his professional career. The Virginia native landed 54% of his power punches en route to a sixth-round stoppage of former champion Jose Pedraza. Davis has improved his professional record to 10-0 with seven knockouts and becomes the second person to ever stop Pedraza before the final bell.
Keyshawn Davis has become a fast-rising star within the jam-packed 135-pound division. Other fast rising contenders and prospects include Raymond Murtalla, Floyd Schofield, Frank Martin and Jose Zepeda. However, the former Olympian has his sights set on two fighters who have already climbed the ladder in multiple divisions — Emmanuel Navarrete and Teofimo Lopez.
“Teofimo has been doing a lot of talking lately. I’ll go up to 140 and fight Teofimo. What’s up?! Get this win tonight. You already know how I’m coming. You and your father. So, let’s set it up. I’ll come straight to 140. Let’s go,” he said after stopping Pedraza in the sixth round.
“And if you’re scared, Teofimo, then [Emanuel] Navarrete. He is a hell of a fighter. It would be an honor to get in the ring with you after you capture the WBO title. So let’s do it.”
Davis may have to narrow his hit list just a bit. Fellow Top Rank fighter Teofimo Lopez seemingly shot down the idea of getting in the ring with the fast-rising contender.
“We’re talking about a lightweight [Keyshawn Davis]. He hasn’t done anything,” the lineal super lightweight champion said.
“Just like Vasiliy Lomachenko told me: If you want to fight me, you’ve got to get a world title. If you want to fight the king, get a world title.”
Meanwhile, Navarrete remains a part of the 135-pound division and will reportedly fight Denys Berinchyk for the WBO Lightweight Championship on May 18, 2024 in San Diego.
