Veteran scoring threat J. R. Smith may be in line to join up with his old teammate LeBron James as part of the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, the Lakers have interest to acquire Smith, currently a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, to play alongside the newly assembled superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

J. R. Smith featured for the Cavaliers during their championship run in the 2016 NBA Playoffs, adding his elite sharpshooting to the superstar core of the team, much as he would be expected to do in Los Angeles.
It emerged last season that Smith was no longer part of Cleveland’s rotation amid his public statements that the team was tanking to acquire better draft picks, such as their acquisition of Darius Garland with the 5th pick in this year’s NBA Draft.
Perhaps the most infamous moment between Smith and his former teammate LeBron James came during Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals in which Smith’s lack of clock management ultimately resulted in the Cavaliers falling to the Golden State Warriors.
