Head Coach Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers have landed the commitment of 2023 top 40 recruit and top ten center JP Estrella. The four-star recruit is the number one player from the state of Maine in the 2023 recruiting class. He committed to the Tennessee Volunteers over the Syracuse Orange, Iowa Hawkeyes, Boston College Eagles, and Marquette Golden Eagles. While talented he is not expected to be a “one and done” recruit but does plan to head to the NBA eventually. Estrella should be an immediate impact player for the program when he arrives on campus.

Rick Barnes has thrived as a recruiter and as a coach with the Tennesee Volunteers. He thrives at taking recruits like JP Estrella and turning them into SEC star players. Joining Estrella at Tennessee as freshmen in 2023 are top 30 recruit and top ten combo guard Freddie Dilione as well as three-star power forward Cade Phillips. Dilione and Estrella should be a dynamic duo as freshmen and could both stay beyond their freshmen years. Tennessee is also not done recruiting talented members of the 2023 class.
JP Estrella, On3’s No. 16 overall prospect in the 2023 class, has committed to Tennessee, he tells @On3Recruits.
“Coach (Rick) Barnes and the whole staff have a vision for me and I can see myself being in that vision.”

The Tennessee Volunteers program has gotten very good at putting recruits into the NBA. JP Estrella plans to join those ranks after his time with the program and he has the talent to get there one day. Rick Barnes will capitalize on his talent and compete in the SEC with him on the roster.
