The topic of snitching in Hip-Hop has always been a part of certain conversations. However, it feels as if the topic has become more prevalent in recent years because of a disgraced rapper from the northeast. In recent weeks, the topic of snitching came up during 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s Savage Mode 2.
“A ‘snitch’ is someone minding other folks’ business to find information they can sell for a price or trade for some other form of compensation,” Morgan Freeman said during the “Snitches & Rats” interlude on Savage Mode 2.
Today, Joyner Lucas continued the conversation with the release of the “Snitch” video. Beginning with a confrontation in an interrogation room, the main character is presented with the options of snitching or staying solid. From there, Joyner Lucas steps in to play the “Good Cop” and the “Bad Cop.” On one side, he’s encouraging snitching and he’s explaining the moral complications of snitching on the other side. In the end, he praises Bobby Shmurda for the stand that he took.
“Just tell ’em what th?y wanna know, and you won’t pay the price/Some would call it snitchin’, but for m? I call it make it right/Man f*ck that ‘make it right sh*t,’ you gotta sit, do your bid/You should’ve thought about this sh*t, before you did what you did,” he raps.
“Now here’s your choice be a man or be somebody murdered/It’s either you can take the stand or you’ll be Bobby Shmurda/Free Bobby Shmurda.”
“Snitch” is the latest visual from Joyner Lucas’s upcoming project, Evolution. Earlier this year, he released the “Fall Slowly” video with Ashanti. Now, he’s back at it again. Check out his new video below.
