Former UFC Champion Jose Aldo is looking to make the transition to boxing. Combate has indicated that the former champion will make his boxing debut on February 10 in Japan. Under the Shooto banner, he is expected to fight Argentinian Emmanuel Zambrano in a 139-pound division bout.
Aldo is an accomplished fighter with an impressive record of 31-8, including wins against Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber. After putting together three consecutive wins over 12 months, he suffered a decision defeat against Merab Dvalishvili. At the age of 35, he made the decision to walk away from the sport entirely.
Aldo’s opponent, Emmanuel Zambrano, does not have an extensive background in mixed martial arts. However, he does have a bit more experience in boxing. Zambrano has lost all three of his professional boxing contests. His most recent outing occurred in November 2020 when Alexis Nahuel Torres stopped him inside the distance.
At this time, it is unclear what venue the bout will take place in and if it will be available for viewing in the U.S. More details to come as the bout nears.
