Well, Jonah Hill won’t be joining the DCEU after all. According to Deadline, talks broke down between the actor and studio for a role in The Batman. Hill was reportedly in talks to play one of the film’s villains opposite Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight.
While disappointing, this news isn’t really much of a surprise. Hill’s hypothetical role was rumored to be that of the Penguin who isn’t always portrayed in the best light. The role also would’ve likely required Hill put on a few extra pounds. And the “funny/funny looking fat guy” persona is one that the actor has been keen to shake in recent years. Especially since making his directorial debut with mid90s last year.
On DC’s side though, the hype machine for The Batman has kept chugging along. Earlier this week, Zoë Kravitz was added to the cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Then, shortly after the Jonah Hill news broke, Paul Dano was cast as the film’s Riddler. And with production on the film set to start sometime in December, we’ll probably be learning a lot more about the rest of the cast in the coming weeks.
The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
