Washington Wizards players John Wall and Marcin Gortat met privately last week to discuss Gortat’s questionable social media post from earlier in the month, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.
Following a Wizards victory where John Wall sat out to injury, Gortat sent the following tweet: “Unbelievable win tonight ! Great “team” victory.”
The details on the aftermath, courtesy of ESPN:
Soon after, Wall, sources say, reached out to Gortat via a text message and essentially stated that if there’s a problem, to direct it to him instead of using social media to spew backhanded insults, sources with knowledge of the conversation told ESPN.
Gortat has explained that his tweet was never intended as a jab at Wall, and he reiterated that he was genuinely praising the team for a big win.
The meeting between both players, who’ve been teammates for years, didn’t last long and facilitated the airing of grievances from both sides, according to ESPN. It’s believed the relationship isn’t fully repaired yet.
For Washington, ensuring its starting point guard and center are on the same page is imperative towards the ultimate goal of winning, with the NBA Playoffs now just two months away.
