SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information regarding the plot of episode five of season three of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
Balancing a television career and a music career is much more difficult than many entertainers make it seem to the casual observer. Within the last few years, Brooklyn native Joey Bada$$ has learned this lesson firsthand through the recording of his latest album, 2000, and the production of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. However, his three-season run with the Starz series came to a tragic conclusion earlier this month when his character, Unique, was killed unceremoniously. While it was tough to seem Unique take his final breaths, it was necessary for the artist behind the character to embark on his most recent tour.
“Yeah, I was very mad. I was upset, you know, fortunately, I have two careers that I am balancing, and I had to go on tour, and we really couldn’t make it work,” he told TMZ.
“Who knows though, maybe we can start a petition or something and tell 50 Cent to bring me back.”
The New York native’s touring scheduling has been intense within the last year, performing in the United States, Portugal and Australia. Not to mention, he’s orchestrating his very own mentorship program, ImpactMENtorship. Joey Bada$$ and his team aim to “provide a path to professional and financial independence” for men of color 18 years and older. The most recent collection of mentors includes JID, Young Guru, Swizz Beatz, Jaylen Brown, Caris Lavert and Cordae, among others.
